Sarah Price stands out among contemporary garden/landscape designers in Europe because of her unique aesthetic sensibility, born in part of a background in fine art. Sarah’s work is often described as ‘painterly’ because of the delicate artistry of the plant combinations she envisages and the spaces she creates for them. The garden she designed for the 2023 Chelsea Flower Show was widely admired by contemporaries in the professional design world for its poise and understated panache. Based in Wales, Sarah co-designed the 2012 Gardens at London’s Olympic Park and was a planting consultant for LDA Design on the post-Games legacy design. Other projects include community gardens for The Exchange Arts & Community Centre in Erith, a recently opened Maggie’s Centre (for cancer patients) in Southampton, and a Horatio’s garden (for patients with spinal injuries) at Llandough Hospital, Cardiff.
The title of Sarah’s talk is, ‘The Art and Craft of Garden Making’, in which she will ‘lift the lid on my working methodology’ by focusing on several case studies from start to completion, explaining, ‘how we can all work in partnership with nature and local skills and resources (including ‘waste’) if only we shift our viewpoint / aesthetics / working methodology.’
